September 9th - I, along with Joel and Zaremi Arcos and Kaihla Stevens, left for the Ch'ol lowlands. We met with Gregorio, Bernabe and Elias Slois in the village of Benito Juarez. They are very excited to start working with us. Gregorio (youngest son) and Bernabe (father) are local Asemblies of God pastors. We installed a filter in Bernabe's home there in B. Juarez, and the next day installed one in his son Elias's home in Punta Brava 2nd section. Elias is an elder at the Punta Brava Presb. church and he led us to their mission in Emiliano Zapata on the other side of the river, at the end of the road. We installed a filter there as well. Joel's dad, Miguel took a unit as well, and that is the filter report! We slept both nights at Joel's family's home in Tortuguero 1st sec. a 45 min walk in the mud from Tortuguero 2nd sec. That first night hiking in the rain and mud, with only two flashlights, tested us a little but we made it. The second day we visited Joel's home const. site, the floor is ready to pour and the base line of block is ready to go on... this will leave the site ready for us to put up the walls and roof in October on our next visit. Joel's family has taken charge of the work up to this point. We visited 3 villages on the 9th, 6 villages on the 10th, and on the 11th on our way out we stopped at the local radio station. We were able to get in two daily spots for $50 pesos a day. They will broadcast our recording of the Ch'ol NT one chapter a day repeated twice a day. 7am and 9pm every day! They have asked if we have any children's material, and if we do then they will broadcast that free of charge! woo hoo! I can truly say that the Ch'ol people are very hungry for the Scriptures. We only have 1st John, Eph. and the first 8 chapters of Romans finished... but they very excitedly received the CD that we handed out and thanked us, over and over again. It was like giving bread to a starving man. We are looking forward to returning soon. Thank you for giving us this oportunity to bring God's word to these people. Please continue in prayer for us. NJT
